We check the prices at Amazon.co.uk, AWD-IT, Box, CCL, Laptops Direct, Overclockers UK and Scan every week. The table lists all 682 kits from these 7 shops, cheapest first, with no filter on size or type. For the wider price picture, see our overview of RAM prices. This page is about the purchase itself.
No shop is the cheapest for everything. Compare the cheapest offer at each shop and the gap is 314% this week. The cheapest DDR5 desktop kit is at Overclockers UK right now, and the cheapest DDR4 desktop kit at Amazon.co.uk.
Stock moves too: 75% of the listed kits are in stock. Change in the median DDR5 price per GB over 4 weeks: not measured yet. Delivery is not in our prices, so the final total only shows in the shop's basket.
What should you check before you buy RAM?
Four things to settle before a kit goes in the basket:
DDR4 or DDR5. The motherboard decides, not the processor alone. The notch sits in a different place on each type, so the wrong module will not go into the slot. AMD AM5 and Intel Core Ultra 200S boards take DDR5 only. Live prices are on our DDR5 RAM page.
One matched kit. Mainstream desktop platforms are dual channel, so two modules give full bandwidth. A matched kit such as 2 x 16GB beats two sticks bought separately. Newegg puts 16GB at office work and most 1080p gaming, and 32GB at gaming with a browser and chat open or photo editing. Our guide on how much RAM you need goes further.
XMP or EXPO. Fast kits only reach their rated speed once the profile is switched on in the BIOS: XMP on Intel, EXPO on AMD. Without it, a DDR5 6000 kit usually runs at a lower default speed. Both makers mark these profiles as overclocking, outside spec.
Desktop or laptop. Desktops use full size DIMMs; laptops and small PCs use the shorter SO-DIMM. They are not interchangeable, so laptop owners should start on the laptop RAM page.
Is it worth buying used RAM?
It depends on the offer. Our table covers new kits from the shops above; we do not track second-hand sellers, marketplaces or trade-in prices. If you buy used, run the same checks and add three more:
Type, form factor and speed are printed on the module label. They have to match your board, exactly as with a new kit.
A complete kit is the safer pick over two single sticks from different sources.
Agree returns before you pay, because they depend on the seller.
Crucial, new or used
Micron announced in December 2025 that it is leaving the Crucial consumer business. Micron says warranty service and support for Crucial products continues.
