Should you still buy Crucial RAM?
Yes, as long as the kit you want is in stock. On December 3, 2025, Micron, the company behind Crucial, said it would leave the Crucial consumer business, including sales through retailers, e-tailers and distributors worldwide. Shipments to that channel ran until the end of February 2026. The Crucial kits US shops sell today are stock that was already delivered, so a kit that sells out is unlikely to come back.
Micron says warranty service and support for Crucial products continue. It also still makes DRAM chips for PC makers and for other module brands: only the Crucial name is leaving the shelf. To see Crucial next to every other brand, start from our RAM prices overview.
Which Crucial kit fits your PC?
Your motherboard decides, not the price tag. DDR5 and DDR4 have the key notch in a different place, so neither fits the other's slot. AMD AM5 and Intel Core Ultra 200S boards take DDR5 only, while Intel 12th to 14th gen chips support both and the board picks the type. Laptops need SO-DIMM modules, which are shorter than desktop sticks. Filter the table by type and form factor before you compare prices.
For a new desktop build, a Crucial DDR5 kit of two 16GB sticks is the usual choice. The cheapest 32GB kit this week is the Crucial Pro OC 32 GB DDR5 6400 CL40 at $499.99 from Walmart. A matched pair runs in dual channel, while four sticks make high speeds harder to hold. If you only want more memory in an older DDR4 system, Crucial DDR4 desktop kits start at $39.99.
Crucial sells two DDR5 desktop lines. Standard modules run at JEDEC speeds, which start at 4800 MT/s. Crucial Pro Overclocking kits, launched in February 2024, reach 6000 MT/s at CL36 once you turn on the XMP 3.0 or EXPO profile in the BIOS, and they carry a second profile at 5600 MT/s. Any Ballistix kit you still come across is old stock: Micron announced the end of that gaming line in February 2022.
Many buying guides point Ryzen 7000 and 9000 owners to DDR5 6000 CL30. Crucial Pro Overclocking kits are rated CL36 at that speed. Both run above the memory speed AMD guarantees and depend on EXPO.
How do Crucial prices compare?
Look at price per GB, not the sticker price, and compare it with the Corsair kits and the full DDR5 and DDR4 tables. A brand name matters less than the type, size and timings. The gap between the cheapest Crucial offer at each shop is 238% this week, so check more than one store before you order. For a notebook, the DDR5 laptop RAM page lists every SO-DIMM kit, and Crucial DDR5 SO-DIMM kits start at $255.00.
