Which G.Skill DDR5 line should you pick?
Pick by platform first, then by looks and height. G.Skill splits its DDR5 desktop memory into lines that share most of the electrical specs, so the differences are mostly the heatspreader, the module height and the timings. For a view across every brand, start at our RAM prices overview.
Trident Z5 Neo RGB is the line with a light bar, aimed at AMD builds. G.Skill rates the 32GB (2x16GB) kit at DDR5 6000 CL30 and 1.35V, with an AMD EXPO and an Intel XMP 3.0 profile. Flare X5 has the same rating at 32GB but no lighting, and its modules stand 33 mm tall, which leaves room under a big tower cooler.
Ripjaws S5 is the line G.Skill positions for Intel. It is also 33 mm tall and also carries both profiles, but the 32GB kit at 6000 MT/s is rated CL36. On an Intel Core Ultra 200S board that is no problem: Intel lists official support up to DDR5 6400, and Newegg's 2026 buying guide suggests 6000 to 6400 MT/s for those builds.
This week the cheapest G.Skill 32GB DDR5 desktop kit is $509.99 and the cheapest 64GB kit is $833.63. To compare G.Skill against other brands at the same speed, see DDR5 6000 CL30 kits.
A G.Skill kit boots at its slower SPD speed with default BIOS settings. It only runs at the rated 6000 MT/s after you enable EXPO (AMD) or XMP (Intel) in the BIOS.
Is CL30 worth paying extra for?
Only if the gap in the table is small. To compare kits, turn CL into nanoseconds: CL times 2000, divided by the speed in MT/s. At 6000 MT/s, CL30 works out to 10 ns and CL36 to 12 ns. On AM5, DDR5 6000 CL30 is a popular target because 6000 MT/s runs in step with the memory controller, but it is not AMD's guaranteed spec. AMD guarantees DDR5 5600 on Ryzen 9000 and DDR5 5200 on Ryzen 7000, and anything above that relies on EXPO.
What about Ripjaws V and DDR4?
Ripjaws V is G.Skill's DDR4 desktop line, 42 mm tall. The 32GB kit is rated DDR4 3200 CL16 at 1.35V with an XMP 2.0 profile, which also works out to 10 ns. Buy it only to upgrade a DDR4 board you keep: DDR4 and DDR5 have the key notch in a different place, so neither fits the other's slot. The cheapest G.Skill DDR4 desktop kit costs $65.99 this week.
